Mini Police
Our Mini Police have been busy creating a fantastic police officer holding a speed gun to remind drivers to slow down when travelling near our school. This is a great way for our pupils to help raise awareness of road safety and encourage everyone to drive carefully.
We would also like to remind families to park considerately around school, keeping entrances, pavements and access points clear and helping to keep all our children safe. Thank you for supporting our Mini Police with this important message!
Enrichment at Read St. John's
At Read St John’s, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. During the Autumn Term, children have taken part in a wide range of enrichment opportunities designed to develop their confidence, broaden their experiences, encourage leadership and strengthen their relationships with the wider community. Our provision is organised around the five strands of the Enrichment Framework for Schools and Colleges. These opportunities support our vision of “Sowing the seeds of tomorrow, growing in the light of the Lord.”
1. Civic Engagement We encourage our children to become responsible, caring citizens who understand the importance of contributing to their school and wider community.
- School Council – giving pupils a voice and opportunities to contribute to school decisions.
- Eco Warriors – promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable choices.
- Wellbeing Warriors – helping to promote positive wellbeing across school.
- Respect Leaders and Playground Leaders – supporting positive relationships and encouraging respectful behaviour.
- Year 6 Buddies – helping younger children to feel welcome and supported.

- Harvest collection for the local food bank – children and families donated food to support people in our local community, developing an understanding of kindness, generosity, compassion and service.

- Readstone Environmental Group – working alongside our local community to improve and care for the environment.
- Whole-school worship – welcoming visiting speakers, including Bishop Joe, and Rev. Sue and Claire to share messages and help children develop their understanding of Christian values and faith.
2. Arts and Culture We provide opportunities for children to experience and participate in creative and cultural activities.
- School Choir – weekly opportunities to develop singing skills, perform together and build confidence.
- Choir performances for the community – sharing our musical talents with members of the local community, bringing people together through music and strengthening community links.

Our Commitment to Enrichment We have completed the Enrichment Framework for Schools and Colleges self-assessment and action plan. This recognised the breadth and strength of enrichment opportunities available to our pupils, while identifying the need to share these experiences more widely with parents and carers. We have therefore developed a dedicated enrichment section on our school website to celebrate the wide range of opportunities children enjoy during their time at Read St John’s. Through these experiences, we aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to discover new interests, develop their talents, build confidence and make a positive contribution to the world around them.
