SIAMS Report

What is SIAMS?
SIAMS stands for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. It is a national framework used by the Church of England and Methodist Church to evaluate the effectiveness of church schools in living out their Christian vision.

Purpose of SIAMS
The inspection helps schools to:

  • Ensure that their Christian vision drives every aspect of school life.

  • Support the flourishing of pupils and adults within the school community.

  • Reflect on the impact of collective worship and religious education.

  • Demonstrate the school’s commitment to serving the common good.

Inspection Focus
SIAMS inspections explore one main question:

How effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision, established and promoted by leadership at all levels, in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?

To answer this, inspectors consider six inspection questions:

  • IQ1: How does the school's theologically rooted Christian vision enable pupils and adults to flourish?

  • IQ2: How does the curriculum reflect the school's theologically rooted Christian vision?

  • IQ3: How is collective worship enabling pupils and adults to flourish spiritually?

  • IQ4: How does the school's theologically rooted Christian vision create a culture in which pupils and adults are treated well?

  • IQ5: How does the school's theologically rooted Christian vision create an active culture in which pupils and adults are treated well?

  • IQ6: Is the religious education curriculum effective (with reference to the expectations set out in the Church of England's Statement of Entitlement for Religious Education)?

Frequency of Inspection
Most Church of England and Methodist schools are inspected under SIAMS approximately every 5 years.
