We are thrilled to welcome our pupils and families back to school for the new year! It has been wonderful to see the children settle so quickly into their routines, tackling their learning with enthusiasm and cheerful energy.

This term has started on a positive note, and we are grateful for the many blessings in our school community—smiling classrooms, dedicated staff, and, so far, the bonus of very little snow!

As a faith-based school, we continue to encourage kindness, respect, and looking out for one another in everything we do. We’re excited for a productive, happy, and fun term ahead and thank you all for your ongoing support.

Here’s to a fantastic term together!

Healthy Snacks at Break Time – Reminder

A quick reminder about break-time snacks. While crisps, chocolate, and sweets are very popular choices, they are best saved for home treats rather than school snacks.

To help keep children energised and focused for learning (and avoid sugar highs before lessons!), we ask that break-time snacks are healthy options such as fruit, vegetables, yoghurt, or similar nutritious choices.

Thank you for your support in helping us build healthy habits — and for keeping break time tasty and sensible!

Attendance Matters – Working Together for Every Child

At Read St. John’s, we are committed to ensuring every child receives the best possible education. Regular attendance is essential—not only for academic progress, but also for building friendships, confidence, routines, and lifelong skills that help children thrive both at school and beyond.

We understand that children may occasionally need time off due to illness or exceptional circumstances. However, we have noticed a growing number of absences that are affecting learning and development. We want to work together with families to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Our attendance expectations are as follows:

  • Children should attend school every day unless genuinely unwell.
  • Holidays during term time will not be authorised except in exceptional circumstances.
  • Medical appointments should be arranged outside school hours wherever possible.
  • If your child is absent, please inform the office on the first day with a clear reason and provide daily updates unless agreed otherwise.

We are here to support families in overcoming any barriers to attendance. If you are experiencing difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us — we want to help. Together, we can give every child the consistency and opportunity they deserve.

Thank you for your continued support.
